Manchester City Under Investigation For Racism
A Manchester City scout is reportedly under investigation for using a racial slur to describe young black footballers. Dean Ramsdale, a youth scout for the Premier League champions, is said to have referred to black players as ‘BBQs’, meaning ‘big, black and quick’.
According to the Mirror, Ramsdale used the term in front of agents and City colleagues during a meeting about players in early June.
City have reportedly taken action and launched an investigation after one of the people at the meeting was angered enough to write a formal letter of complaint to the club about ‘racial profiling’.
The club, according to the Mirror, have spoken to Ramsdale about his language and have sent a letter of apology.
Ramsdale has worked for the Premier League club since June 2017 after joining the youth recruitment setup from Sheffield Wednesday.
He has more than 20 years of experience in English youth football, having previously been academy boss at Leeds and Preston.
It is the second such incident of racial profiling in Premier League scouting in recent years, after former West Ham head of recruitment Tony Henry was banned for a year by the FA.
